Alfred P. West, Jr. is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SEI, the Oaks, Pennsylvania-based financial services company he founded in 1968.
SEI is a leading global provider of outsourced asset management, investment processing, and investment operations solutions that help corporations, financial institutions, financial advisors, and affluent families create and manage wealth.
Al, who is a native Floridian, received his Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1966.
He is the Chairman of the Board of the SEI Center for Advanced Studies in Management at Wharton; Chairman of the Washington-based American Business Conference; member of the Georgia Tech Foundation; winner of The Joseph Mayo Pettit Alumni Distinguished Service Award; winner of Philadelphia Hospitality’s Vision for Philadelphia Award; member of the Wharton Board of Overseers; and, Chairman of the Board of WestBridge, a private non-profit organization supporting the recovery of those with co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders.
Al is a recipient of the Joseph P. Wharton Award, and was named Legend CEO by the Technology Council of Philadelphia in 1995. In 2002, the Greater Philadelphia Venture Group presented Al with the Raymond Rafferty Entrepreneurial Excellence Award which recognizes “an individual who has founded a successful venture-backed company and has greatly influenced a specific industry with pioneering ideas.”
In 2006, Al received the B’Nai B’rith International Distinguished Humanitarian Award for his outstanding civic commitment. In 2010, Investment Advisor recognized Al as one of the 30 most influential people in and around the independent advice business in the magazine's “Thirty for Thirty.” In 2011, Al was honored by Strategic Insight, a business intelligence provider to the worldwide fund industry, as one of the 60 most influential “Visionaries of the Modern Era of the Mutual Fund Industry.” This recognition pays tribute to the individuals who have helped create the foundation of the industry and have led and protected it in the past 25 years. Tiburon Strategic Advisors recognized Al in 2012 with the Tiburon CEO Summit Award.
Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business named Al the 59th Business Leader of the Year in 2013. Al received the G. Fred DiBona, Jr. Individual Leadership Award from the Philadelphia Arts and Business Council.
Al’s dedication to the arts was celebrated in 2014 when The Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia honored him and his daughter, Paige West, with the G. Fred DiBona, Jr Leadership award, which honors those who have distinguished themselves as leaders in the arts, culture, or creative sectors. In 2014, Al West also received the distinction of Highly Commended in the Lifetime Achievement award category by Family Wealth. Al also was named the 2014 Most Admired CEO in the banking and finance category by the Philadelphia Business Journal.
In 2015, Al was named EY’s National Entrepreneur of the Year Award winner for the Financial Services sector. Most recently, The Philadelphia Business Journal named Al West one of Philadelphia’s “Power 76” of 2016. The list celebrates the most innovative and transformative leaders in the region.
