SEI affinity groups empower employees to make positive changes in their communities. In the summer of 2020, SEI London Diversity worked on a platform for voicing employees’ views on discrimination and racial inequality. It became clear that there was, and continues to be, a great interest in taking action in a meaningful way.

The group created Project Nurture, an initiative that seeks to positively impact surrounding communities in London. They are working with local organisations that are committed to addressing factors that contribute to racial inequities.

Tower Hamlets Business Partnership (THEBP)

THEBP aims to increase social mobility and boost financial education in the borough of Tower Hamlets. They seek to improve the visibility of financial services as a career path for primary and secondary school children.

There is an entrenched cycle of poverty in the community despite recent improvements in education and opportunities within the business districts of the City of London and Canary Wharf. THEBP are working to break that cycle by helping the next generation of young people become better equipped to access varied employment opportunities in London. THEBP delivers a broad range of programs in schools, designed to improve the employability and life chances of young people who face multiple disadvantages.

SEI London Diversity are working together with SEI London Cares to actively support THEBP’s programmes, including Head-to-Head Interview Practice, Money Matters, Inspirational Speakers, and Writing Partners.

ThisisBookLove

ThisisBookLove are an award-winning collective of educators, artists, musicians, creatives, aunties, uncles, parents and grandparents, working together to increase the availability of multicultural, diverse and bilingual content. Their mission is to tackle the absence of culturally inclusive material within schools, libraries and galleries, as well as on screens and our high streets.

SEI London Diversity partnered with ThisisBookLove to provide curated “Book Boxes” to primary schools in Tower Hamlets, in collaboration with fellow partner THEBP. The donated books will make a real difference to the children at the schools, and SEI are hoping to organise a number of employee-led virtual book reading sessions for the children in the near future.

SEI affinity groups allow employees to channel their interests and caring into a variety of impactful initiatives and programs. Follow us on Facebook to read the latest on our affinity group activities.
