As institutional demand grows, oversight and administrative challenges are on the rise due to increasingly diverse and complicated portfolio holdings. Grappling with the complexities and expenses of running their investments, some major investors are opting to significantly reduce the number of managers with whom they partner. Yet the alternatives industry is still about growth — investors are receiving record distributions and planning increased allocations to both funds and direct investments even as they seek to rebalance across asset classes.
