Shooting for the moon

This leading manufacturing company with a small, internal IT force and cybersecurity team was in need of change. With several external suppliers and outsourcing partners managing bits and pieces of the operation and ongoing infrastructure development, the company was looking for a single vendor to provide support beyond just operations. After being burned by a costly vendor that never completed implementation, getting off the ground quickly and seeing results were key objectives.

The company released an RFP several years ago, focusing on everything they truly wanted: one partner to meet their many needs. But when no one fit the bill, the company separated the RFP into two versions: one for managed cybersecurity services and one for managed network services.

The stars align

SEI Sphere® encountered the company at a cybersecurity conference and was invited to respond to their cyber RFP. Our leaders guided the company’s Director of Cybersecurity through our robust platform that features comprehensive email protection using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) and a user-friendly dashboard, ultimately securing the contract.

After learning the company also had a managed network services RFP in the works, we were in a unique position to step up a second time. Over the course of several meetings, our analysts identified potential areas for improvement in the company’s network infrastructure. We demonstrated its identity and access management (IAM) and integration capabilities, and crafted a viable project plan to move them toward a zero-trust strategy. The company’s confidence in us led their leaders to also select SEI Sphere as their network services provider.

A perfect match

In choosing SEI Sphere, the company benefits from:

Comprehensive support

  • A single provider for integrated services, including log collection and security information and event management (SIEM), 24/7 security operations center (SOC), network monitoring, incident response, operationalized threat intelligence, and more.
  • A complete view of their cyber profile, as security and network information are presented in a single pane of glass within the SEI Sphere Hub.
  • Ability to support a roadmap and other growth areas that extend beyond this scope, leveraging the organizational stability and depth of technology resources within SEI.

Dedicated client team

  • A skilled SOC analyst team working collaboratively to regularly tune threat intelligence and take action on threats.
  • A tenured network team with deep understanding of global networks and zero trust network architecture (ZTNA).
  • Clear and thoughtful communication to company leadership by a dedicated project team and customer success manager.

Maturity of offering

  • Smooth implementation with immediate results, including cyber alert notifications within 30 days of the signed contract and discovery of a malicious phishing campaign and subsequent response, remediation, and reporting.
  • Partnerships with leading technology providers:
    • Secure access service edge (SASE): A single-vendor approach to SASE technology that empowers organizations to provide consistent, secure access to the web, cloud, enterprise network, and business-critical applications deployed anywhere. This approach converges networking and security across a unified operating system and agent.
    • Email protection: Comprehensive, AI-native email protection against attacks that exploit human behavior, including phishing, social engineering, and account takeovers.
quote

“We had high standards. We were looking for a true, long-term partner; someone we could work with for the next 20 years."

— VP of IT, manufacturing company

Better together

Network is the core layer that all InfoSec runs across. Having security and network operations together creates a more holistic approach to cyber protection.

Network-level visibility

  • Helps identify potentially malicious traffic
  • Helps troubleshoot nonstandard web access issues for business-critical sites

Fewer logistical problems

  • Allows for quicker response to network threats since network and cyber teams work closely—and even sit next to each other
  • Helps shorten preparation time for audits
  • Improves firewall management (e.g., configuration rules, access control lists, and incident response)

Holistic cyber protection when every second counts

The magnitude of threats confronting the manufacturing industry is beginning to equal that of healthcare and finance. Complex supply chains are undergoing digital transformation that outpaces the speed of security. Manufacturing is often a critical step in a much larger process, which means any cyber incident impacting a manufacturer could have massive effects on the economy. Companies must have both robust cybersecurity and operational resiliency if they want to thrive comfortably.

Let's find your solution together

For this manufacturing company, patience in waiting for the right partner paid off. They didn’t just want a vendor for monitoring; they wanted a partner for growth and resilience. Having a single vendor for security and operations isn’t typical, but it is for us. SEI Sphere’s core offering is built on the premise that cyber protection demands a more holistic approach.
