Contest

SEI and the Philadelphia Phillies invite local mural artists to create a work of art that brings to life the theme of “Connecting communities,” highlighting the Philadelphia region’s unique culture, bold spirit, and the importance of bringing together communities with purpose. The mural will be showcased in Citizens Bank Park during the 2025 Major League Baseball season. 

The mural will be located on an 18 feet wide by 12 feet tall wall in left-center field above Ashburn Alley. Complete list of Official Rules can be found below. 

Contest Instructions

Mural criteria:

  • Must be original artwork produced by the person(s) named on the entry form
  • Must follow “Connecting communities” theme and incorporate SEI’s and the Phillies’ brands. The selection committee retains the sole right to determine whether a mural follows this theme. 
  • No advertisements or copyrighted material
  • No political, religious, or controversial messaging or imagery
  • AI-generated artwork will be disqualified and removed from contest 
  • No use of current or previous Phillies players/names

Artist criteria:

  • Artist must be a U.S. citizen who is a legal resident or student residing in the Philadelphia region, which includes the following counties:
    • PENNSYLVANIA: Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware 
    • NEW JERSEY: Burlington, Gloucester, Camden, and Salem 
    • DELAWARE: New Castle, Kent, and Sussex 
  • Artist must have the capacity to paint the designs/mural themselves at full scale.
  • Artist must have experience in and an understanding of the process to scale a small drawing to the mural space.
  • Artist must be willing to accept reasonable requests for revision to original entry for final mural from SEI and the Phillies. SEI and the Phillies retain final decision-making authority. 

Submission process:

  • Each applicant will submit one draft of their proposed mural concept. One concept per artist will be considered. Artists who submit multiple concepts will be disqualified. 
  • Each applicant will submit their painted mural concept on an 18”x24” canvas. Applicant is responsible for supplying their own canvas and materials for the submission. 
  • Applicants can either mail their entries to SEI, or drop off their entries at SEI, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. Applicant will be responsible for any postage, shipping, or travel-related costs. Address: SEI, 1 Freedom Valley Drive, Oaks, PA 19456 (Attn: Leslie Wojcik)
  • All applicants must download, complete, and sign the “Official Rules” form and include with their submission. Applicants who need assistance downloading the form can email or call SEI (GlobalCommunications@seic.com; 610-676-4191). Submissions will not be considered without a signed “Official Rules” form. 
  • All applicants must include an explanation of their mural concept and how it embodies the theme. The Mural Selection Committee will assess each submission based on aesthetic value, originality, technical skill, interpretation, and thematic consistency. 
  • Submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. ET on Feb. 14, 2025. Submissions received after 5 p.m. ET will be disqualified. 
  • Projects that do not meet all the design criteria/guidelines will be disqualified from the contest. SEI and the Philadelphia Phillies reserve the right to accept or reject all entries. 
  • The Mural Selection Committee, comprised of SEI and Phillies representatives, will collectively decide on the mural concept that most clearly and creatively illustrates to the theme. 
  • All submissions will be considered intellectual and physical property of SEI. Submissions not chosen will be considered for display at SEI’s headquarters in Oaks, PA.

Judging criteria:

Submissions will be rated on a five-point scale in five categories:

  • Aesthetic value: Visual appeal of the artwork, including color, composition, and design
  • Originality: Uniqueness of the artwork, including creativity, innovation, and novelty
  • Technical skill: The artist’s proficiency, including brushwork, texture, and accuracy
  • Interpretation: Meaning and message conveyed by the artwork, including symbolism, metaphors, and narrative
  • Thematic consistency: How well the artwork aligns with the theme, including relevance, coherence, and integration

 

Prize

  • All entries will be considered for display at the SEI Oaks Campus for a minimum of one (1) year and featured in a photo gallery on SEI’s public website.
  • Winner will be awarded the opportunity to showcase their work at Citizens Bank Park during the 2025 season. 
  • Winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize upon completion and installation of the mural at Citizens Bank Park.
  • Winner will attend a mural unveil event at Citizens Bank Park to share their experience and inspiration behind their artwork, as well as be featured in promotional activities across SEI and the Phillies’ digital and nontraditional channels. 
  • Winner will receive four (4) tickets to a mutually agreed upon Phillies home game and be recognized on the field during a pregame ceremony, followed by throwing the first pitch at a mutually agreed-upon Phillies home game. 
  • A QR code linking to an artist profile on SEI’s public website will be featured at the mural. 
  • At the close of the 2025 season, SEI will retain all rights to the mural, including right of ownership, which will be transported to SEI’s headquarters and displayed at SEI’s discretion. 
  • First and second runner-up applicants will receive four (4) tickets to attend a mutually agreed upon Phillies home game. 
  • Winners will be contacted on or about Feb. 21.
